Since 2015, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, @massdot, has launched a project to upgrade traffic signal technology. Part of that project included introducing a flashing yellow arrow which is an enhanced indicator to drivers. The #FlashingYellowArrow signal aims to replace the circular green indication for left turns at signalized intersections. When the arrow is flashing, drivers are allowed to turn only after YIELDING to all oncoming traffic and to any pedestrians in the crosswalk.
