AR5K Memorial Road Race
By Michele Taranto
For runners, road races are the perfect solution to fuel those competitive juices, achieve a goal, partner with other athletes, and keep the legs moving. However, participating in an event with meaning and philanthropy brings a standard sporting event to a whole other level.
The first Annual AR5K Memorial Road Race was launched to celebrate the life of lifelong Norwood resident Austin Reardon. Reardon passed away tragically at 22 years old and left behind his parents, twin brother, younger brother and sister, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was a 2015 St. Catherine graduate, 2019 Norwood High School graduate, and a senior at the University of Maine. He was active on the ice playing for both the Norwood and UMaine hockey teams.
All proceeds from the 5k run/walk will support the Austin Reardon Scholarship Foundation.
The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m., check in, 8:30-9:30 a.m., Knights of Columbus, 572 Nichols St. Registration the day of the race is $45 or online atwww.AR5KRoadrace.com. The first male and female finishers will receive $250. Everyone who registers will receive a pair of sport socks and AR5K will also match the souvenir with a donation to the Pine Street Inn in Boston.
