Just after 2:30 a.m., on May 3, Group 4 Firefighters were called to a residence on Rock Street for a reported building fire.
On the approach, Group 4 shift commander Captain Jeff Campillio was met with heavy fire showing from both floors on the B, C and D sides of the 1 1/2 story single family home. Captain Campillio struck a working fire as Engine 5 Lieutenant Murphy and his crew quickly deployed an 1 3/4” attack line and began an aggressive attack on the fire while Ladder 1’s crew went to the roof to perform ventilation. Engine 4 established a water supply before assisting in the fire attack with NA 2 and NA 3s crew. A short time later, a 2nd alarm was struck bringing in additional mutual aid from surrounding towns. Both primary and secondary searches of the structure proved negative and all occupants were able to escape the fire safely.
The fire was quickly brought under control, however, due to the number of void spaces found in cape style houses, crews were on scene for about two hours overhauling and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.
There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters. Norwood Fire Investigators are currently working to determine a cause.
The Norwood Fire Department would like to thank all of their mutual aid departments for their assistance on scene and for providing station coverage. A huge thank you as well to the providence canteen for providing rehab to crews working the fire.
