What a Day; What a Storm!
Jul 31, 2020 11:34AM ● By What a StormNorwood Light customers suffered some power outages as Mother Nature unleashed a monstrous rain storm on Sunday, June 29. The extraordinary high winds, hail, and nearly six inches of rain resulted in down power lines, massive street saturation, home and business flooding, including Norwood Hospital which eventually had to be completely evacuated.
Norwood Fire Department’s Accounting of Storm:
During yesterday’s storm Norwood Firefighters responded to over 50 incidents in less than 6 hours. Additional firefighters and dispatchers came in from off duty and staffed every vehicle in the building so that no call went unanswered.
In addition to investigations, fires and car accidents, firefighters assisted with the evacuation of Norwood Hospital. The extrication of critically ill patients from all floors of the hospital without elevator use and the safe transport to area hospitals would not have been possible without the work of all Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM) and private ambulance companies, Norfolk County Control, Massachusetts Department of Fire Services technical rescue team, Norwood Police Department officers and countless other agencies that worked, and continue to work in difficult conditions.
We would also like to remind everyone the Norwood Hospital, including the Emergency Department, is closed. Call 911 for any medical emergency and seek routine care at other facilities.
Thank you to everyone who responded!
