Walpole Footlighters Performs ‘Into The Breeches!’

It’s 1942, and the men that run the local Oberon Play House are all off fighting the war. Determined to keep the playhouse open, the artistic director’s wife sets out to produce an all-female version of the Henriad, four of Shakespeare’s histories. The team she assembles is united in desire, if short on actual theatrical experience. Luckily, they have an ample supply of persistence to overcome a gap in financing, the company diva who only wants a role for which she’s too old, and the newcomer playing the comic relief character who isn’t funny. Can these women make it all come together by Opening Night, when the show must go on? The Walpole Footlighters close their 100th anniversary season with an homage to the process of putting on a show: Into the Breeches! by George Brant.
The Footlighters are starting a long-term plan to make the theater more accessible in conjunction with their 100th anniversary. The theater always has hearing assistance devices for hearing impaired audience members. For visually impaired audience members, there will be a touch table in the lobby at the Friday evening performances (May 3rd and 10th) as well as the Sunday matinee on May 5th. A touch tour of the stage will be conducted at 1:10 p.m., prior to the May 5th performance.
Performances of Into the Breeches! are at the Walpole Footlighters Playhouse at 2 Scout Road in East Walpole. Long-time patrons are asked to take note of the new, earlier start time for evening performances; those performances will be on May 3, 4, 10, 11 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. There will also be matinee performances on May 5 and 19 at 2:00 PM. Concessions will be available. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased online at www.footlighters.com.
